MGM Resorts announce plans for Dubai Sphere in a stunning development. CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle touts the spherical venue to be “equally compelling” as the state-of-the-art Las Vegas Sphere that opened to much fanfare in 2023.
Dubai Sphere is going to be the centerpiece of a proposed $2 billion resort complex called ‘The Island’ in the city. Developers haven’t yet shared an opening date. “There’ll be three properties sitting on a large podium and in the middle of it is a sphere,” According to Hornbuckle.
Dubai Sphere to be as compelling as the one in Las Vegas
“Not as big as the sphere in Las Vegas by any stretch but equally compelling,” the chief executive of MGM Resorts International said. Dubai Sphere is going to have 300 seats, compared to the 18,600-capacity of the venue in the US.
To date, MGM Resorts is constructing the Dubai venue independently, but Hornbuckle recently indicated that the company is going to be open to finding a partner in the near future – a sentiment Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan shared last year.
The massively successful Las Vegas Sphere is run by MSG Entertainment offshoot Sphere Entertainment. Guests often sing songs of the venue’s 3D storytelling capabilities. It’s set to become the most insane concert venue ever built globally.
Enduring status of Dubai as a key Tourist Attraction
Speaking of the promising history of Dubai, MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle said the city used to be a desert in 1985 and literally 35 years later, it has turned into a “megatropolis” sheltering a staggering 3 million people, according to media reports.
Dubai’s history is a mix of tradition and modernity, demonstrating the tremendous number of efforts the people there put in to transform the desert into a significant hub of culture, business and luxury. Today, the city is one of the Most popular tourist destinations.
Over 10.6 million international tourists arrived in Dubai in the first 7 months of 2024, representing a stunning 8% increase from the same period last year (9.83 million arrivals), according to the latest tourism performance report.
These numbers indicate the enduring status of Dubai as a key tourist attraction and confirm that the city’s effective strategies for luring visitors are bearing fruits. It appears Dubai can conveniently smash its last year’s record of 15.37 million arrivals.
