When planning to travel to the UAE in the coming years, you cannot miss the Etihad Rail for your travel needs as it is an ambitious project that will connect the Emirates with plans to connect more countries in the future.

What is Etihad Rail?

Etihad Rail is the UAE’s national railway network designed to connect 11 cities and regions. The project aims to enhance transportation efficiency, support economic growth, and promote tourism by linking key centers of trade and population. Initially focused on freight services, it will also include passenger trains designed for high-speed travel.

When Will Passenger Rail Start?

While specific dates for the commencement of passenger services have not been announced, officials expect operations to begin soon. The service is projected to carry approximately 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030 as part of its long-term goals.

Two Confirmed Passenger Station

  • The First Etihad Railway Passenger Station to be built in Sakamkam, Fujairah, at the heart of Fujairah city.
  • Second in University City in Sharjah

Route and Stations

The Etihad Rail network will connect 11 cities and regions in the UAE, including:

  • Al Sila
  • Al Ruwais
  • Al Mirfa
  • Abu Dhabi
  • Dubai
  • Sharjah
  • Al Dhaid
  • Fujairah

A major station is being constructed in Sharjah, with others planned in Dubai and Fujairah.

Etihad Rail Travel Duration

Once operational, the travel times between key cities will be significantly reduced:

  • Abu Dhabi to Dubai: Approximately 57 minutes
  • Abu Dhabi to Fujairah: Around 105 minutes (1 Hour 45 Min)
  • Abu Dhabi to Al Ruwais: About 70 minutes (1 Hour 10 Min)

This will be a game-changer for travel in the Emirates as travel time between key cities will be reduced up to 40 percent as well as a luxurious experience for travelers.

The construction of the rail network is now complete, with freight services already operational. Passenger trains are designed to travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h (124 mph). The project includes plans for future connections beyond the UAE, including a potential link with Oman and Saudi Arabia.
