The nol system upgrade is 40% complete. Dubai Metro commuters can soon make the most of this transition from the existing card-based ticketing system to the much better account-based ticketing technology.

The nol system upgrade is going to enable customers to pay public transport fares using different payment methods, such as QR technology, next-gen nol cards, fingerprints, facial recognition technologies and bank cards, among others.
Similar to bank cards, nol card holders can also shop through digital channels and retail stores in Dubai and the broader UAE. The nol system launch happened in 2009, the same year as the launch of the Dubai Metro.
