Abu Dhabi beaches just got a brand-new addition and how! No, we aren’t talking about any fancy additions. In a heart-warming move, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has unveiled a beach, especially catering to the visually impaired.
The inauguration of the 1,000-square-meter beach stands as an important move in addressing the needs of People of Determination and promoting inclusivity. Situated near the Corniche’s Gate 3, this project is more than just a beach. It offers a comprehensive environment with security, safety features, and entertainment options to enhance the wellbeing of those who are blind or Beach for the Visually Impaired. The initiative honors 2025 as the “Year of the Community” and reflects the values that the President of the State, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has promoted.

While attempting to afford the visually impaired a fun and safe beach experience, the move also inclines to instill a sense of inclusion and shared responsibility in the society and the country. Conceived by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality on behalf of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in association with the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, the initiative also stands out as the Municipality’s aim to elevate the standard of living for all citizens of Abu Dhabi by providing them with top amenities.
Creating a Disability-Friendly Beach
The acceptance by the Disability Union of the World as a disability-friendly beach showcases the realization of a truly accessible facility on a global scale. The beach is well equipped with services for the visually impaired. These include vehicle service, paved guidance pathways equipped with tactile tiles, an educational Braille sign, and a fenced walkway with a guiding rope and sound-emitting alert bells. These facilities ensure a perfect experience and easy access to the beach.

The beach provided free entry for the visually impaired as well as their companions. Accessible walkways, designated restrooms, floating wheelchairs, free drinking water stations, and free transportation for senior citizens and People of Determination, are some of the other facilities you can avail at the beach. Additionally, there are parking spots set aside specifically to meet the needs of guests.
Ensuring Safety and Comfort
The beach operates daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 midnight, and swimming is permitted from sunrise until sunset. A certified lifeguard keeps watch over the designated swimming area to ensure maximum safety. Additionally, during business hours, a licensed nurse is on hand to offer first aid assistance if needed. The Municipality has set these rules and measures to ensure high safety standards, allowing visually impaired visitors to swim on their own. This stands as an important milestone on the road toward acceptance and equity.
