UAE airports release tips for passengers to better handle busy summer season

Summer is here in the UAE and multiple airlines and airports are releasing a series of tips for passengers to better handle the busy season. It is summer holiday time, and the UAE is expecting tens of thousands of tourists.

UAE residents soon started resuming plans after the announcement of the Iran-Israel ceasefire just a handful of days ago. Most airlines fully resumed their scheduled operations a short time after the Iranian strike on a US base in Qatar.

But since the busy summer travel period is here, different airlines and airports are releasing notices, urging passengers to better prepare and not be late for their gates. This article includes the details to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for all.

Etihad gears up for busy summer holiday period

The UAE’s national airline, Etihad, is preparing for more than 7 million passengers at Zayed International in Abu Dhabi because of the busy summer period. Many people are also flying on Etihad’s seasonal routes to Malaga, Nice, Mykonos, Santorini and more.

It is important to remain informed. You can access the latest flight information through the Manage My Booking section on etihad.com or on the mobile application, in addition to other features like modifying flight details and selecting seats.

In order to skip potential queues, Etihad is strongly encouraging its passengers to reach the airport at least 4 hours before departure during peak periods. Online check-in opens 30 hours before departure.

One can also find multiple off-airport check-in and bag-drop facilities, such as at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, The Fountains – YAS Mall, Mussafah and Al Ain. For ultimate comfort, use the home check-in option through MORAFIQ.

Economy Class passengers are permitted 7 kg of carry-on baggage. First and Business Class guests, on the other hand, can bring up to 12 kg. You can purchase additional checked baggage at special rates through Etihad’s site or mobile app before departure.

Dubai International (DXB) all set for summer surge

Dubai International, one of the busiest airports globally, is entering a period of sustained peak operations. DXB is expected to note more than 3.4 million passengers in the period from June 27 to July 9, 2025.

Daily numbers are forecast to average more than 265,000. The busiest day could be on July 5 for both departures and transfer traffic. But there is an integrated summer readiness plan to ensure all guests’ journeys remain safe and efficient.

The recent regional situation has also led to some delays and cancellations. Supported by a real-time monitoring system, the oneDXB community has been putting in substantial efforts around the clock to support guests and maintain continuity in facilities.

Guests departing the Dubai International airport (DXB) in the coming days are encouraged to pay heed to a set of tips for a smoother experience. It is recommended to reach the airport no earlier than three hours before departure.

Children older than 12 years can use Smart Gates to speed up the passport control process. Utilise online check-in, self-service kiosks and bag drop at DXB Terminal 3. Once at the airport, guests can enjoy DXB’s full range of facilities to relax before the flight.

Sharjah airport issues notice due to busy summer holiday

On Saturday, Sharjah International airport announced a significant increase in passenger numbers to and from the Emirate during the peak summer holiday season. More than 800,000 people could travel from July 1 to 15, 2025.

Khaleej Times has reported that a detailed plan has been prepared to ensure a seamless experience for all passengers. The rush comes as a large number of UAE residents travel during summer to their home countries or cooler climes.

The recent regional airspace closure is also receding and Sharjah-based Air Arabia has announced that the airline is gradually resuming operations on previously suspended flights. You can find more details on airarabia.com.

The international airport in Sharjah is urging passengers to reach the place three hours before departure to better manage any potential delays in completing all necessary procedures. You can also contact your airlines to confirm flight times and any updates.

Emirates issues hacks for summer 2025: For the kids

It is finally summer in Dubai. School is finished and plenty of children are heading on a memorable trip. One of the largest international airlines, Emirates has issued a set of recommendations for the little ones for a better summer 2025 experience.

On the ground, Emirates is offering priority boarding for families across all international airports. This means kids get to board the plane first. The airline also has a dedicated family check-in area during busy periods.

Travel through Dubai International (DXB) on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday in the period from 12 pm to 6 pm, and get a complimentary Emirates ice-cream for the entire family. The airline has four ice-cream carts around the departures areas until July 20.

Emirates is offering an Unaccompanied Minors option to children aged 5-11 years, if flying alone. This option ensures that children are accompanied by Emirates staff for each step of the journey, bringing maximum comfort and safety, and the ‘ultimate flex’.

There is also an Unaccompanied Minors Lounge offering video games, internet, comfortable sofas, children-only bathrooms and a free drinks and snacks area. For infants under the age of 2, parents can book seats onboard beside safe bassinets.

Kid’s meals are served on almost all Emirates routes, excluding some short haul flights in the GCC. This summer, the international airline is going the extra mile to ensure the best experience for all the kids.

Earlier, Emirates issued a set of suggestions, expecting busier settings until June 30. The airline recommended reaching the airport three hours before departure and reaching the correct boarding gate at least one hour before the flight takes off.
