Dubai has done it again. For the 12th year in a series, Dubai has led the list of busiest international airports, performing better than traditional champions based in the US and Europe. Last year, Dubai International (DXB) noted its busiest day, month, quarter and year. 95.192 million passengers used the airport, getting in and out of Dubai like a breeze. For this reason, DXB is leading the list of the World’s Busiest Airports 2025 list for international passenger traffic.
Yesterday, Airports Council International (ACI) released its 2025 rankings of the busiest airports in the World, highlighting a set of busy transport hubs across total passengers, international passengers, air cargo and more categories.
Since 2019, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta has been topping the list of World’s busiest airports in terms of total number of passengers. Dubai has, nonetheless, been doing a fantastic job as it came at fourth position in 2019, second in 2024 and maintained its position in 2025. Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Istanbul and more names are also popping up from time to time. These busy airports continue to record busy passenger traffic and seamlessly handle the rush. World’s Busiest Airports: What Flying in 2025 Felt Like?
Last year, the global total passengers are estimated to have reached 9.8 billion. This is a significant number, representing an increase of 3.6% from 2024 and 7.3% from 2019. The top ten busiest airports in the world handled 9% of global passenger traffic.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta came first on the list. Dubai occupied the second position as DXB continues to close in on the gap sooner than expected. Isn’t it incredible? Dubai is the only Middle Eastern transport hub on the list, representing its prominence among other top performers in the region.
Shanghai Pudong has recorded the biggest jump among other airports in the top ten, rising from tenth position to fifth. This is mainly because of international passenger recovery, visa policy easing and greater connectivity. Compared to 57th position in 2022, Guangzhou Baiyun rebounded to ninth position on the list, in an interesting update. There are four airports from the US in the top ten.

World’s Busiest International Air ports 2025: DXB Leading for 12th Time
In 2025, international passenger traffic reached 4 billion. This is an increase of 5.9% compared to 2024 and 8.3% compared to 2019. The ten busiest airports in the world in terms of international passenger numbers represented 17% of total international traffic. Dubai has occupied the first position on the list, again. London’s LHR comes second, Incheon in South Korea as third, and Doha in Qatar as tenth.
This time, Dubai is not the only Middle Eastern airport on the list. Doha is also present. It should be noted that Dubai International (DXB) handles international passengers only. There are no planes flying in or out of DXB on domestic routes.
December 2025 closed as the busiest month for DXB. This is historical data. 8.7 million passengers used the airport, representing a rise of 6.1% year-on-year. Isn’t it incredible? The same month also potentially noted the busiest day for DXB. The last quarter is described as the busiest quarter and the entirety of 2025 represents the busiest year for DXB. But you can also call it consistency as Dubai has been maintaining its position for quite some time.

From 28 February to the early part of April 2026, Dubai International Airport (DXB) noted a significant reduction in its flight schedule. Carriers like Emirates and flydubai had to suspend multiple flights. Many other airlines from other countries ran special flights to Dubai to bring many of the stranded passengers back home. But things are finally starting to get back to normal at a gradual pace. You can expect all airlines to expand to their original schedule as soon as possible.
