Ultimate Japanese Restaurant in Dubai: FIVE LUXE JBR

Ronin is Dubai’s most talked-about Japanese fine dining destination, sitting on the ninth floor of FIVE LUXE JBR on The Walk, Jumeirah Beach Residence. Led by celebrated celebrity chef Sin Keun Choi, known as Chef SK, a South Korean culinary master with a background spanning multiple Michelin Guide and Gault&Millau recognised restaurants, Ronin is a daring reinterpretation of Japanese gastronomy that blends ancient ritual with modern mastery.

The restaurant takes its name and identity from the rebel samurai warrior of Japanese folklore, and that rebellious spirit runs through everything from the interior design to the cooking philosophy. Recognised in the MICHELIN Guide Dubai 2025, shortlisted at the BBC Good Food Middle East Awards 2024 in both the Japanese and New Restaurant categories, nominated for Interior Design of the Year at the 2024 Commercial Interior Design Awards MENA, and honoured as What’s On Dubai Awards’ Highly Commended Fine Dining Asian Restaurant, Ronin holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Restaurant Guru across nearly 2,000 reviews.

Restaurant Features and Dining Experience

The interior is one of the most visually striking in the city, designed around the Irezumi tradition of Japanese tattooing, with beautifully tiled walls, dark teakwood furnishings, flashes of fiery red, and 500 red paper lanterns suspended above the dining room creating a dramatic, immersive atmosphere. The open kitchen serves as the centrepiece of the indoor space, where Chef SK and his team work visibly and theatrically throughout the evening.

VIP Pagoda-style sharing tables offer a more enclosed and intimate experience for groups, while a private dining room accommodates celebrations and corporate events away from the main floor. The outdoor terrace opens to uninterrupted panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf and the iconic Ain Dubai Ferris wheel on Bluewaters Island, making it one of the most scenic dining terraces along The Walk and a particularly coveted spot at sunset.

The menu is a bold creative journey through Japanese cuisine, with Chef SK fusing traditional techniques with contemporary flavour combinations and premium ingredients across live-fire teppanyaki, a dedicated sushi bar, robata grilling, tempura, ramen, and hand-rolled sushi. Guests who want to surrender entirely to the kitchen can opt for the omakase, a handpicked progression of seasonal dishes presented with artful precision and building in intensity from course to course.

Some signature dishes of the restaurant include Wagyu Truffle Gyozas, which are delicate dumplings stuffed with premium wagyu beef served with truffle ponzu butter and teriyaki sauce, among others. The BBQ Miso Black Cod is the restaurant’s most celebrated main, robata grilled with a silky miso cream sauce and a squeeze of lime that cuts through the richness beautifully. The A4 Wagyu Caviar Carpaccio takes luxury further still, with thin slices of A4-grade wagyu beef topped with kizami wasabi, mustard, sea urchin, and caviar, served alongside miso brioche bread.

The beverage menu is designed to complement the robust flavors of the food, with Japanese-style drinks that contain sake and yuzu, along with other fine wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic cocktails. A resident DJ plays curated beats from the evening onward, setting a lively yet relaxed tone that builds in energy as the night progresses.

The Saturday brunch delivers bold Japanese flavours in a sharing format with panoramic Gulf views and has become one of the most popular brunches along The Walk. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, offers free Wi-Fi, and valet parking is available through FIVE LUXE JBR. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for terrace seating, the omakase experience, and all weekend evenings.

Ronin is open daily for dinner from 6pm to 2am. JBR Beach is a two-minute walk, Dubai Marina is five minutes away, Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai are five minutes by car, Dubai Marina Mall is five minutes away, Palm Jumeirah is ten minutes away, and Dubai International Airport is approximately thirty minutes by road.
