ToggleTokyo-Style Comfort Food, Wagyu Hotpot, and Rare Sake Steps from Dubai International Airport
Fujiya Millennium is one of Dubai’s most genuinely authentic Japanese dining experiences, a neighbourhood-style izakaya tucked within the Millennium Airport Hotel on Casablanca Street in Al Garhoud, just minutes from Dubai International Airport. Opened in 2018, Fujiya was built entirely around Japanese izakaya culture, with the concept, design, ownership, and staff all coming directly from Japan, making it a rare find in a city where Japanese restaurants often lean toward fusion or fine dining rather than the unpretentious, social spirit of a true Tokyo neighbourhood izakaya.
It holds a 4.6 rating on Google and has been awarded Highly Commended status in the Time Out Dubai Best Restaurants Lists in both 2020 and 2021. The restaurant has a second location in Downtown Dubai, but the Millennium Airport Hotel branch in Al Garhoud is the original and retains a loyal following of regulars, expats, and in-the-know food lovers who have made it one of the most recommended Japanese restaurants in this part of the city.
Restaurant Features and Dining Experience
The interior is warm, cosy, and deliberately unpretentious, designed to evoke the quiet comfort of a neighbourhood Tokyo izakaya rather than a polished hotel restaurant, with modern decor that keeps the focus firmly on the food, the drinks, and the conversation. The restaurant has indoor dining and an outdoor patio area for al fresco dining during cooler months, alongside a private room available for group bookings and special occasions.
The ambiance is extremely friendly and laid back and appeals to couples, friends, Japanese nationals, and curious foodies alike, with the staff known to be highly attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu items.
As far as the menu goes, it is an extensive list of everything that one can get from a Japanese izakaya and includes the dishes such as Japanese tapas, yakitori, tempura, sushi, sashimi, ramen, katsu sando, and the specialty of the house, Wagyu shabu shabu hotpot buffet which lets you cook your high quality beef in a bubbling broth right at the table in a traditional Japanese manner. The other specialty of the place is Wagyu BBQ.
High-quality ingredients are imported directly from Japan to maintain authenticity across every dish, and the kitchen handles both traditional preparations and slightly more contemporary Japanese comfort dishes with equal confidence. Standout dishes praised consistently by guests include the karaage fried chicken, Wagyu beef, spicy paitan ramen, salmon nigiri, shiso leaf tempura, and the matcha cheesecake and sesame ice cream for dessert.
The beverage programme covers rare sake, Japanese draft beer including Asahi, yuzu drinks, shiso cocktails, highballs, jasmine tea, and lemonade, with the sake selection standing out as one of the more thoughtful in Dubai’s Japanese restaurant scene. A weekend brunch is also available, providing a more leisurely format for those wanting to work through the menu at a relaxed pace.
The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, offers outdoor seating, delivery, a late-night dining option, and a bar and lounge section. Reservations are recommended, particularly for the hotpot buffet and weekend evenings. Prices are noted by guests as fair and accessible for the quality delivered, though some larger group bills can climb depending on the format chosen. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with the kitchen running into the late evening.
Fujiya Millennium is located in Al Garhoud, 5 minutes from Dubai International Airport, with Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek nearby.
