Strategically located in the heart of Dubai, DXB connects the Emirate to scores of destinations across six continents. It does not really matter if you are taking a flight out of Dubai, landing in Dubai, taking a short- or long-haul flight or just transiting, the airport is going to take care of most of your requirements and more.
Plus, the recent Middle East crisis demonstrated Dubai Airport’s calibre in handling emergencies. The airport had to close multiple times for safety reasons. But it also quickly recovered, resuming inbound and outbound flights as soon as possible. The staff at DXB is capable enough to handle different kinds of situations, letting you indulge in luxury, convenience and efficiency. But since the situation is still a bit volatile, it is highly recommended to keep checking your Dubai flight status from time to time and only leave your hotel or residence for the airport if you have a confirmed booking or your airline has notified you directly.
Time to understand the intricacies of Dubai International Airport (DXB) at the nitty-gritty level. From shopping and dining to lounges, spa treatments, parking facilities and transport options, this guide has it all. You are not going to be disappointed.
Dubai Airport Terminals at a Glance
For the basic idea, there are three terminals at Dubai International Airport (DXB), each catering to a different set of airlines. For example, Emirates flights land or take off from Terminal 3 only. But flydubai has its presence in Terminal 2 and 3. Terminal 1, on the other hand, caters to a different set of airlines and passengers. Plus, Terminal 1 and 3 are directly connected to the Dubai Metro. You can use it to get to different parts of the city in no time. Time to take a brief look at most of the airlines that different DXB terminals are handling.
DXB Terminal 1
Terminal 1 of Dubai International is often recognised as the global connector. Though DXB handles international routes only, Terminal 1 caters to a lot of long-haul global routes. You can expect a streamlined immigration process, different restaurant and shopping centres, and direct connectivity to the Dubai Metro. For Dubai Duty Free, check the Arrivals area. You can find a lot of options. In addition, for those looking for a secluded space, there are sleeping pods and quiet zones, mainly catering to connecting passengers in Dubai.
Terminal 1 of DXB handles dozens of flights from different parts of the globe, such as Aegean Airlines, Aeroflot, Air Baltic, Air China, Air France, Air India, Austrian Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, China Southern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Egypt Air, Finnair, Ethiopian Airlines, Fly Jinnah, Flynas, Go first, Gulf Air, IndiGo, KLM, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Middle East Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Riyadh Air, Saudia, Sichuan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, SpiceJet, SriLankan Airlines, Tunis Air, Turkish Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and many more.
DXB Terminal 2
Compared to Terminal 1 and 3 of DXB, Terminal 2 has lesser luxury amenities. But you can definitely find the Dubai Duty Free here at the Main Terminal. It primarily handles budget carriers, regional airlines and charter flights. flydubai operates some of its regional routes from here, though it also flies from Terminal 3. Terminal 2 is not directly connected to the Dubai Metro. Therefore, many passengers use taxis, buses or shuttle transfers to reach other terminals or areas out of the airport. Though luxury at Terminal 2 is not as pronounced as in Terminal 1 and 3, you can find most of the essential amenities, such as check-in counters, immigration facilities, duty free shopping and restaurants.
DXB’s Terminal 2 handles different airlines from across the globe, such as Air India Express, Azimuth Airlines, Badr Airlines, Caspian Airlines, Eritrean Airlines, flydubai, Himalaya Airlines, Karun Airlines, Kish Air, Nepal Airlines, Qeshm Air, SalamAir, Sepehran Airlines, Somon Air, Transavia, Turkmenistan Airlines, Ur Airlines, Varesh Airlines, and many more.
DXB Terminal 3
Keeping the best for the last, or just from a chronological aspect, Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport is one of the largest airport terminals globally and also the home base of Emirates airline. You can experience most of the luxury DXB is famous for here. From high-end retail stores and expansive Dubai Duty Free stores at three different locations in the Arrivals areas to direct Dubai Metro connectivity, fine dining restaurants, spas and premium lounges all around, Terminal 3 lets you splurge a bit more. Smart gates and faster immigration processes are more pronounced here, besides better baggage handling systems and more opulence. You are surely not going to be disappointed.
Currently, DXB Terminal 3 is handling only five international airlines, including Emirates, flydubai, Air Canada, Qantas and United Airlines. Excluding flydubai, all other airlines operate from Terminal 3 only. This terminal offers ultra-modern amenities, premium experiences and seamless transfer.

flydubai Flights at Dubai International Airport (DXB)
flydubai is another UAE airline operating flights to dozens of destinations across the globe. It is currently operating a limited flight schedule, though it is expecting to reach its full capacity sooner rather than later. You are in safe and comfortable hands here.

Dubai International Airport Baggage Rules and Tips
Dubai International Airport (DXB) handled 86.75 million bags in 2025. This is a 4.95% year-on-year increase and the airport completed all its tasks in an efficient manner. 89% of all arriving baggage reached passengers terminating at DXB in less than 45 minutes of the aircraft arriving on stand. The mishandled baggage performance of DXB is at 99.75%. This translates to just 2.47 mishandled bags per 1,000 guests. Isn’t it incredible? Last year, DXB handled the highest-ever baggage volume during a calendar year. This is a significant feat and demonstrates the level of operational excellence at the airport.
Baggage Tips
If you are landing or taking off from Dubai, please be assured that the airport is going to take great care of both you and your baggage. The airport has a great mishandled baggage performance; therefore, your journey shall start on a comfortable note. But you can do a bit more to improve your experience. Here are some suggestions from our end to make sure your bags move faster, safer and in a hassle-free manner.
1. For liquids, aerosols and gels, each item should not exceed 100 ml and the total amount cannot be more than 1 litre. Some exceptions can be made, though, for medication, baby food and more. But you need to check beforehand.
2. Each airline has different rules around checked baggage.
3. Due to recent policy changes at DXB, airport security may open your bags to identify and remove any suspiciously packaged or prohibited items.
4. You can bring cardboard boxes and check them in. But they need to be of good quality.
5. Keep your electronics in your hand luggage.
6. Old travel tags may confuse the scanners. Therefore, it is important to take off any tags from your previous trips to ensure a much smoother ride.
7. It is highly recommended to get a neatly secured bag as loose straps and conveyor belts often do not share a healthy relationship.
8. Please do not overstuff your bags because such baggage, and oddly shaped bags too, are often difficult to handle and are more likely to get delayed.
9. Keep all batteries in your hand luggage. Rules surrounding batteries are changing; therefore, pay attention to them and do the needful.
10. It is highly recommended to get travel insurance for Dubai.
